Layout Exercise

M Magazine

My first  magazine I worked on was that based on a hip-hop genre. Its target audience is mass market and it features the artist "DRAKE" as the main cover star. I put the artists name in red lettering making it bold, it also matches with the red from the masthead.  I used the font 'Copperplate Gothic Bold' for the main cover. I chose this as I thought it was edgy and original. Creating an urban feel, which reflects the artist and also the magazines ethos. The main cover line is placed over the main image of drake. Highlighting him as important to the audience, it makes it clear who the main artist is. I used 'This Year Drake goes for Gold' as it relates the gold chain in drakes mouth and then added 5 gold stars to show his music is gonna have a 5 star rating. The main image is also edgy meaning all of the cover lines work around it. The other cover lines I have added are all in plain black, making them stand out but doesn't overwhelm the main cover line. They are also in smaller font because of this - they are not seen as important as the main cover line. The cover line titles have been put in bold, to show the reader what the content is further. I have put in an exclusive interview at the top of the page to entice the reader - this is known as a puff.
