Research into Similar Products: Genre Crossovers

Taylor Swift is an American singer-songwriter, who at the age of 14, began to pursue a career in country music.She released an album in 2006, marking her career as a country musician.


However, over the years, Taylor Swift gradually incorporated different genres of music into her own records. Her modern music is predominantly pop music, with elements of country and contemporary. This is an example of an artist who's music is a genre crossover. 

You can see from the evolution of her magazine album covers, how her music style has changed. The way she is presented has also changed. She has moved away from her original country vibe to a more urban style. 

Here I have looked into another crossover artist... Miley Cyrus is an American singer, songwriter and actress. She is known for her role as Hannah Montana for 10 years  -she first debuted as Hannah in 2006 in the music and film industry. 

She began in the music industry as a country artist. This was because she was rooted with the genre because of her family - Her father is Billy Ray Cyrus.

Over time Cyrus began adapting to appeal to a demanding modern teen market. Her music began to become a crossover of country and pop. Miley is a icon within the music market for her versatility and offers plenty to the world of music. Her style is adaptable, she is able to incorporate everything that is needed to produce the music her fans are looking for.  

Genre crossovers allow artists to become more successful because when its cleverly marketed for the right target audience. However genre crossovers can be risky and must be thought through. This is because appealing to many audiences can be difficult, as it would not be fully possible to incorporate everything that is fans expect. Crossovers also mean there is not one specific demographic meaning more work needs to be done to appeal to a wider range. 

I want to feature an artist who's music crossovers genres. I hope that my artist will styled similar to Taylor swift but will have the edginess of Miley Cyrus. Their music will be prominently pop but will have roots to country.
