Research into Potential Target Audience: Target Research Questionnaire Data Analysis

Here is the analysed date of my second questionnaire/ survey that I published online over several social media platforms - Twitter, Instagram, Facebook. From Monday 28th to Wednesday 30th I received 25 participants. This was good response especially as I got a wide range of ages and genders answering. Just like my previous questionnaire I will use its results to guide my decisions in the next stage of production. This way I am replicating what an audience would want to see, creating a realistic magazine. My results were automatically analysed and put into a bar chart as I used the online site Survey Monkey. This feature allowed me to gather my results easily, percentages are also shown to give me more insight into the numbers that were giving the same answer.

The first two questions were quite simple and were only asked for my benefit. As I was able to see who was participating. By receiving a wide range of age groups taking part I gained more insight then I would if I just asked one age group or gender. My survey was completed highly by females and those under 18 years old.

From this question I can see that people see the perfect aged demographic for a pop magazine to be 12 to 15 years old as 18 out 25 gave this answer. Other answers were not as highly rated and only received 1 or 3 votes showing that most people agree. This question has helped me see that my perfect target market is infact this age group.

I can see that people see females being attracted more to pop magazines, so I am going to use this demographic to target for my magazine as it would have more impact. However I don't want to make my magazine a female only exclusive magazine, so I will target females first but will not exclude males entirely. I can do this by using the correct colour scheme.

I asked this question for aesthetics. This is because putting the correct price on my magazine it will look more professional and realistic. If i was to put an over extravagant price it would look like I didn't listen to my audience and didn't do my research into existing magazines.

All of the options I suggested are what I look for so I asked to see whats the most important as I cant use them all, to avoid overloading my magazine. The question has also showed the importance of cover lines, as someone suggested another option, that being 'headlines' relating to the use of cover lines on a magazine. Creating the right affect for my magazine also comes down to my writing of cover lines, so I will be following up with a post about cover lines and my personal writing.

People also mentioned the importance of honesty and truth, so I want my contents to reflect this. Some also said its also important to focus on the artist as a person with a history then a celebrity as some interviews forget to talk about them and only talk about their fame.

I asked this question in a different way on my previous questionnaire. I repeated it to get some more clarification. Nearly half agreed saying that 10 stories is plenty within a pop magazine, so I think this is how many I am going to include.

People don't only just buy magazine for its contents but for other reasons. This question was asked to see what entices a reader into a magazine when it comes to free things. Most said that they would prefer a free CD and other said either a free poster or gift. In my magazine I am going to include at least one these as a way to gain readers.

I received some more suggestions on suitable names for my magazine. I will use the suggestions from this survey and add them with the previous to help me pick out the best name for me and the style of magazine I am going for. By asking for suggestions I am able to gain inspiration and I also then have the final decision. This is because if I was to give the names already I would give them the final  decision.

My results will be used as a focus in my upcoming blog posts.

Research into Potential Target Audience: Audience Research Questionnaire 2

Facebook
Twitter
My second questionnaire is focused more on finding my specific target audience, while also getting some more information on how to form a successful magazine. I used some of the data from the previous questionnaire to form my new questions so i could get a clearer understanding of to some of the questions participants had asked. I created the set of 10 questions on survey monkey < https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/ >, an online survey maker, it has a free service that can be upgraded but the free version offers plenty of things that I need. These questions will hopefully give me some more clear ideas to follow. I posted it onto a variety of social networking platforms on 28.11.16, this way I will reach a more wider range of people along with people I have less connections with giving me more honest opinions and views. I have put it on my personal Facebook page, twitter and Instagram. I have also asked people to share it so more people take part. I will leave the survey running until mid day on 30.11.16. I can then use the online tools to analyse the results before posting them in a following blog post.
Instagram

Here are the questions I have asked:

  1. What is your age?
  2. What is your gender?
  3. What age group would be more attracted to buying a pop magazine?
  4. Who are attracted more to Pop music magazines, like Top of the Pops?
  5. How would you pay for a new pop magazine?
  6. What influences you to buy a new magazine?
  7. In an interview what would you like to read?
  8. How many stories would you like featured in a magazine?
  9. Would you prefer... (a list of answers follows)
  10. Do you have any suggestions for suitable name for a new pop magazine?

Research into Potential Target Audience: Target Audience Research Data Analysis

Here is my analysed results from questionnaire that I asked 15 people to complete today. I tried to get a equal split of ages and genders, this way I could get a wide range of opinions and views. I took each question and analysed them one by one. The questions which gave answers to be chosen I put the results into a pie chart by using the date from the questionnaire. With the other answers I have looked through the answers and selected the best few options.

  1. Which colour scheme best reflects the pop genre? - There was a pretty close split for this question between colour scheme 1 and colour scheme 2. It was only one person that chose colour scheme 2. I personally like this colour scheme to begin with, as I mentioned in my previous post < http://caitlynwilliamsas.blogspot.co.uk/2016/11/drafting-and-planning-colour-scheme_13.html  > However colour scheme 1 has begun to grow on me and now has the most potential to represent a pop genre magazine. So because of this I am going to do some further research on colour schemes, to make sure I have to right colour scheme for my ethos.
  2. Which name best reflects the identity of a pop artist? The answer with highest percentage was 'Pearl Rey' which was my favourite generated name as mentioned in a previous blog post <http://caitlynwilliamsas.blogspot.co.uk/2016/11/drafting-and-planning-artists-names_7.html > The next best names were 'Katie Isle' and 'Jody Ocean' both at 20%. I think following this result Pearl Rey will be the name I will use. This is because not only do I think is suits a pop artist but so does the audience I asked.
  3. What would you like to see a pop magazine? called? I got a lot of varied answers for this. I will use the answers I got to form a suitable magazine name. By doing this I am able to take inspiration but also have my own in put
  4. Does the pop genre and country genre work well together? For this question I asked yes and no and also asked for a justification. The repeated answer i got was yes, one person said " It would work as a good combination." This was due to the fact there is already artists whoa re bridging the gap between the top genres already, for example Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus who I had previously researched <http://caitlynwilliamsas.blogspot.co.uk/2016/10/research-into-similar-products-genre_15.html> . However those who said no, did be live they were polar opposites so it is important that if i continue with my plan to put the two genres together that i do it right.
  5. How many images would you like to see on the front cover of a pop magazine? This question is pretty straightforward. Most people gave to same answer of 1, 2 or 3 images on the cover. From my research I have found that it is common in some pop magazine to have more than one image, maybe showing an artist separate to the main cover star.
  6. What would you like to see more a new Boy Band, Girl Band or a mixed group in a pop magazine? There was a close draw for this question. The audience believed it would be good to see a new girl band, as magazines are often full of boy bands predominately. I agree with this totally as my research showed that there was more boy bands in the charts than girl bands. Despite the result and the research into the little number of girl groups, i think a mixed group would be best to feature in my magazine as they would be able to offer more appeal to both sexes.
  7. Can you give any suggestions for the name of a new band? Just like question 3 I have chose the best answers to select from and work from as I move forward.
  8. Is direct mode of address something that is important on the front cover of a magazine and on a double page spread? With this question I found that most people didn't know what direct mode of address was despite me highlighting it was about eye contact. I maybe could have explained it in a different way on the sheet. But once I had explained it people began to notice it more than they maybe would have done before. The most answer yes to it beginning important so for my magazine it is critical that i use it.
  9. On the double page spread where would you like to see the main image on?Most people said they would like to see the image over the two pages. This means the writing would fit around the image in the centre. This looks great aesthetically, from the research of magazines I have done previously.
  10. How many stories would you expect to see in a pop magazine? People gave answers in the range of 9 to 18, which is good as different magazine have different numbers. The range I was given is reasonable and helps me know i need to do some further research on other magazines content number.
  11. Would you buy a pop magazine personally? The most said yes to this question. Meaning that the data I have collected is even more crucial as it is from people who are used to reading pop magazines. When it came to people say no they said because of there expense and lack of originality. I want to avoid this by putting on a reasonable price and including more original content that is personal.
  12. How often would you expect to see a pop magazine published? There was a 40%, 27% and 33% divide showing people had different opinions. However monthly came out on top with 40% was monthly. I think this is the best option. as readers would more likely have the money saved to buy an issue each monthly rather than weekly or fortnightly. This would mean they would more and likely than buy it frequently.

Research into Potential Target Audience: Audience Research Questionnaire

This is my first questionnaire that I have created. It has 12 questions which I believe will help answer my own personal questions about my magazine. I have printed off physical copies and have handed them out to be completed, I have selected a certain day for them to be completed - this will be Monday 28th of November. When I have enough participants I will be analysing the results and publishing them on here. I will be following with a second questionnaire about my potential target audience.

Here are the questions I will be asking, there will be a different range of ways for the participant to answer. Options may be tick boxes or full answers. I will also be getting justifications for some answers to help strengthen my analysis further, giving me more insight into what I need.

  1. Which colour scheme best reflects the pop genre?
  2. Which name best reflects the identity of a pop artist?
  3. What would you like to see a pop magazine called?
  4. Does the pop genre and country genre work well together?
  5. How many images would you like to see on the front cover of a pop magazine?
  6. What would you like to see more a new Boy Band, Girl Band or a mixed group in a pop magazine?
  7. Can you give any suggestions for the name of a new band?
  8. Is direct mode of address something that is important on the front cover of a magazine and on a double page spread?
  9. On the double page spread where would you like to see the main image on?
  10. How many stories would you expect to see in a pop magazine?
  11. Would you buy a pop magazine personally?
  12. How often would you expect to see a pop magazine published?

Teacher Feedback

In today's lesson, we each were asked to present our completed Remake Remodel Task in front of the entire class. We did this in order to receive some positive feedback on our work as well as some constructive feedback from our teacher. We had to talk about what we had done and why we did it. I began by talking why I chose to remake and remodel a Billboard magazine. I said i chose it as it is a prominently a pop magazine that includes a lot of genre crossovers. This matches what I want my magazine to do.  I also talked about my colour choices, my choice of fonts, my photography decisions as well as the other conventions of a magazine - skyline, barcode, dateline and price. I also spoke about my whole process of making it (I also spoke about it in a previous post < http://caitlynwilliamsas.blogspot.co.uk/2016/11/remake-remodel-task.html > )  I spoke about the process from the photography to editing.

After presenting I was given my feedback, which was:

  • Modelling my task on an existing magazine was an excellent thing to do, as it gave me a plan and layout to follow. However it was good that I had adapted it to my style.
  • I had included everything that was needed and asked.

Drafting and Planning: Audience Research

In the following week I am going to be completing two audience research questionnaires. I will posting the questions on various social media platforms, as my target audience are often online. I will also be doing a more physical questionnaire. This will then allow me to gather enough information to conclude my decisions. Previously I have done target research, so I know what I have to do to create a successful questionnaire that is imaginative, user friendly and interactive.

My questions will asks things about possible....

  • Magazine Names - What matches my music genre and ethos?
  • Colour Schemes - What will go together? What will reflect the pop genre?
  • Artist Names - Is an artist name important?
  • Masthead designs - What makes them memorable?

I will ask questions about things I have mentioned in previous posts, to see if they agree.
The questions will be based on the common conventions of a magazine. This will ensure everything is covered and match my target audience.  I will begin by creating the questionnaire I will then publish it for people to take part in the next week. I will  then follow by collecting all of my research and will analyse it carefully before publishing. I can then proceed in setting my ideas in stone.

My second questionnaire will be more focused on my potential target audience. I will use my first questionnaires results to help guide my second. The questions will be focused on my demographic but will also help me narrow down other decisions.

Organisation: Artist Outfit

In a previous post I talked about the look of my artist and the way I want her to be perceived. I must also use what my model is wearing to further create an identity for my artist. Female artist are very much often taken as style icons so what my artist wears must be suitable and create the correct idea. I want my artist to be a good role model. So for this she must be fashionable but must have class.

The established artist i'm going to take example from is...
Taylor swift

Her style isn't always dressed up glam in ball gowns and dresses. She is often seen in a casual jean with a nice t-shit that complements her lipstick. I think this is how I want to present my artist as I want her to look ordinary in a way. I want her to be relateable and to do this she must look like her style is achievable. Taylor is my inspiration as she is able to look good in anything she wears which shows she is comfortable in what she choices to wear. She is able to pull off simplistic looks to show class and elegance. My artist will hopefully do the same.

Chloe is going to wear a black bomber jacket, as it is traditional an item related with vintage clothing. Many young people own a similar jacket. so this choice would suit my demographic. Bomber jackets are currently trending high which I believe would match the conventions of the pop genre. As things in the pop genre are often seen trending high. It is important that what she wears is fashionable and then people are likely to recreate the outfit if it is trendy because they will want to wear it.

She will able be wearing black jeans, to match the style of Taylor swift wearing jeans fashionably. Although they are black like the jacket the the shirt choice will have plenty of colour and will standout more. The colour will also match her lipstick which will work well. I don't have set shirt for my model as of yet however it will match the colour scheme I will eventually choice for my magazine.

Shoe choice is also important to ensure there is coherence throughout the outfit however they will not always be seen due to me using different angles and camera shots, I am planning on my model wearing either white or black converse with the outfit, with the opportunity of wearing both.

Remake-Remodel Task

We were set the task to take a pre-existing magazine and remake and remodel it. We had to use original photography but we could use the established masthead and artist names.

This is my completed remake remodel task. I first began by deciding which magazine I was going to work from. As I am going to do a pop magazine for my final piece I decided the magazine I chose had to match the same genre. After looking through ideas, I settled on doing a Billboard magazine. I then chose which particular issue i was going to recreate, I went for the magazine on the left - an edition from 2011. I liked this magazine as it id full with cover lines and colour, adding life and personality. The layout worked well together, which would make it easy for me to replicate.

I began by deciding to complete this task on Paint.net, I chose this software as I am more familiar with it and have had a lot of practice working with in the past. I then used the picture I had chosen from a previous post and pasted onto the page above the white background I had set. I used the Magic wand tool to then cut out the background from the image. I did this as it didn't give the effect that I was hoping for. I then added a matching masthead behind the image. I decided to use a similar layout to the original magazine. I couldn't find a matching font however i found one that gave a good look on the page. I also matched the boarder and made my own boarder fit around the page using a line tool on Paint.net. It was also important that I included all of the code and conventions from the original magazine. The colour choice was based on the colours used. I think they worked well and wanted to replicate them.

Drafting and Planning: Possible Photography Location

My second possible photography location is a range of
graffiti spots around the digbeth area of Birmingham.

During trips to Birmingham city center I have noticed a few spots that would make suitable photography locations. These locations are back dropped by beautiful pieces of art. Despite them beginning graffiti they offer beauty and tell a story that is delicate and pure. The three pieces that have caught my eye are easy to get to and also other something different. I think weather permitting spending an few hours at these locations would give me some photos that are different and unique. I think these pieces would reflect my artists style, especially the bottom one, which uses different flowers. It would reflect the two genres, pop and country coming together to create one piece of beautiful art.

Although graffiti is generally related with more hip-hop artists, I believe that putting a new spin on the pop using graffiti would create an new urban demographic.

I could possible use both proposed locations to take my images for my front cover, contents page and double page spread. This would then give me a range of images to choose from; which use different colours and styles of background.

Organisation: Remake Remodel Photography

Here is a selection of photographs I have took of my model for my remake remodel task. I decided to begin by trying out different poses and backgrounds with my artist. This would give me the best opportunity to choose the best image for my cover.  By going a collective of images I was able to see what did and didn't work. I can use this to learn when it comes to taking the photos for my final magazine.

The background  I chose to use was a white background with a white light shining through. This was in a museum that I visited in Liverpool. This would help me model stand out more in the image. I had my model pull different facial expressions. After previous research I have found that the majority of images used on magazine front covers use artists using direct mode of address. So it was likely that I used an image that uses full eye contact. I decided to have my model pull different faces to see which one matched the magazine I was trying to recreate.

The image I chose is full of life and reflects the artist in the original magazine. Although my model is not pulling the same pose, it still offers the energy the magazine portrays.

Drafting and Planning: Look of my artist

It is important to create my model into my desired artist correctly. This means she must look like shes fits in the genre of music I am going for. She must also match the ethos of my magazine. To do this I must use mise-en-scene to create a style for my artist.

Makeup: The way female artists look in pop music is important. Music artists often set the current trends, so girls often often recreate what they see there favorite artists wearing. Some artists makeup is completely wacky, where others is understated. The non make up look is also very popular within music, to create a natural feel.

Pop artists tend to be seen wearing brightly coloured makeup, especially lipstick, nails and eye shadow. In the image above, the stereotypical red lipstick being worn, this is associated with young females. However different colours like blue or green are also been seen as on trend recently. Makeup lets us know a lot about an artist. Having my artist wear makeup that complements my colour scheme will create a better flow.

I want my artist to wear make up but it is important that it looks natural and doesn't create a fake look on my model. I want her lipstick to be the stand out feature along with her eyes. I hope this can be done by highlighting her eyes with glitter and eyeliner and using bright coloured lipstick - not sure of the colour yet but possibly pink to match my colour scheme. I want her to look understated and classy to be a good role model to my readers. It is also important that I define her unique features.

Hair: The way a women has her hair styled can tell a lot about her just as makeup can. Whether it is up or down, it can express a lot.

Artists are often changing the colour, style and cut of their hair. Its changes with the times and their personality. Some artists decide to stick to more traditional hair colours while others chose to go with less mainstream colours, like fire red, pink, yellow and blue just to name a few. Whether brown, black or hot pink hair is important in creating a successful artist.

My artist will have dark brown hair which is the most common colour. My model has long hair which I want to make a focus. I want her to look traditional so her long brown hair will create this feel. I am hoping to add curls into her slightly to add to volume and fun.

Drafting and Planning: Colour Scheme

As previously mentioned in my previous blog... ''I want my magazine to appeal to a wide range of ages. My magazine will have a mainly female demographic, so I want the colours I chose to reflect this. I want them to be bright and catchy but not too overpowering, as I want my readers to be attracted to my magazine and not detracted because of bright leary colours. The colour scheme must also match my ethos to create a successful house style. This will then hopefully act as a pull to my magazine."

So in this blog post I am going to plan the colour palette I am going to use on my magazine. I am hoping then I will able to use this to fuse the next stages of my magazine. Having a planned colour scheme will help with the next step which is creating my masthead.  However this is palette is only an initial idea, so may be changed further down the line depending on the other components I put in place.

I am going to look at starting colour blocks all ready created to begin with to allow me to put down some colour ideas. I will then use an online colour mixing tool to create some original colour ideas (by using newly mixed colours it will make my magazine look original. However this can cause confusion as obtaining the same colours may be more difficult than using the colours available.

This is my favourite already prepared colour scheme that I found as the colours all work well together - creating the house style I was hoping for. They also match my magazines ethos. The use of the different tones of grey with the hot pink and fusia creates coherence. Although grey is often related as being a neutral colour used mainly for backgrounds the use of the pink with the different tones would show sophistication but also fun. Pink and grey in my opinion are a great combination and on the page would make my magazine look professional, they would also work well in attracting my target audience. The colours are also not too bright which is good, as I have previously said that colours being too bright can take away from the readers experience. Grey is a timeless classical adding to the vintage feel of my magazine and the pink adds excitement which adds to the modern vibe which comes from the new pop music.

This is another good colour scheme that I found. Once again the colours work well together but do not offer the same meaning as the colours in the previous one. The use of such different less fun colours would make the magazine feel old and out dated in my opinion. The colours are also not very bright and would not shout out 'New Pop Magazine' to readers, meaning I would not reach my intended audience.

This colour scheme is much brighter than the previous two. Bright colours are used often within pop music magazines. But I. feel that this section of colours are too bright for the feel of magazine I am trying to reach. I want my magazine to reach a wide range of ages and I think these colours are too childish in a way.

After looking at the already current colour scheme I have gone against the idea of trying to create my own. This is because why go against something that has already been done, tested and works. I have decided to use the first colour scheme, with the pink grey combination. However I may tweak it to make it more personal to me and my magazine. I also think this colour scheme reflects the style of artist I am going for, which is important. If I was to use the wrong colour scheme it could give across the wrong messages about my artist/s. Despite me wanting to use these colours I will also be carrying out audience research so this will then help me determine if this is the right colour scheme for the type of magazine I am going for. By asking potential readers I will have insight into what my audience want.

Research into Similar Products: Colour Scheme

Colour Scheme Research:

I want my magazine to appeal to a wide range of ages. This will then hopefully act as a pull to my magazine.

I have looked into current pop magazines on the market, to look at the colour schemes they have used and how effective they are.

  1. Magazine One is an issue of 'We Love Pop.' It has a mainly female demographic which is similar to what I hope to achieve.  The colours they have used are Hot pink, white and black. There is also use of bright yellow on the cover to make certain accent points stand out. The hot pink has been used to make the focus points on the cover more important For example the main cover stars name is in hot pink along with the magazines masthead. This shows coherence throughout the two. Hot pink has been used well on this cover as it works well over the dark dress that the artist is wearing. By using this colour along with the black and white in place it ensures that everything can be read over the image. Pink is a colour commonly related to females so the use also reflects the target audience of the magazine further.
  2. Magazine Two is a 'Top of the Pops' magazine which reaches a large female target auideience. Once again they have used the pink but have also used a number of other colours - yellow, red, white. All of the colours work well together creating excitement and fun on the page. The placing of the coloured font and text boxes make sure once again everything can be seen. Using a mixture of colours works well in my opinion as they add life to the page. Despite the use of all the colours I still think a successful house style is created on this front cover as they all add something to the page.
  3. The final magazine is from Billboard magazine. They have a much wider demographic reaching both sexes. They haven't used pink but have instead swayed towards having a blue background with white, yellow and red font.  The colour combination works well together as the magazine has nothing but text on it cover, This magazine would still appeal to females, meaning that pink doesn't always have to be used to grab the attention of a female audience. By using other accent colours the whole magazine comes together creating an effective house style.
I am going to use the colour schemes from these 3 magazines to determine my final colour scheme. It is also important the colours reflect the pop genre as well as the country genre I am going for. This s crucial to creating the start of my magazine ethos. If the colours are not right it will set my magazine style of balance which will effect its outcome,.

Drafting and Planning: Artists Names

Featured Artists

Here are the results of using the stage name generator. I used the website < http://fantasynamegenerators.com/stage-names.php > to generate a selection of 10 random names.

Here are the first results I got on the website...

I think this selection of names offer great options to use. I like 3 out of the 10 names in particular as I believe they match the idea for my artist perfectly. These are -

  1. Pearl Rey - This name is not generic and offers something rarely seen. I think the two names work well together. The name is quite urban but also vintage in my own opinion which I think is great.
  2. Katie Isle - Although the name Katie is often used, i think the use of Isle is something new and exciting.
  3. Daniel Cross - This name looks like a male name but is in fact female name, I think this adds something great as the audience would be left with questions.
I also like some of the other names generated for example the use of Ocean and Blue creates a youthful and new feel. I hope to do some audience research to ask the question on what works best and what people would like to see an artist be called. This will then help me nail down my decisions. The research will also ensure my magazine and artists fit in with the current market.

Drafting and Planning: Artists names

Featured Artists

In my magazine I am planning on featuring an single solo female artists, and a band - I am still deciding whether or not this band will be mixed or a boy band or a girl band. I am hoping I will be able to make a decision soon after completing some further research. The artists I will feature will be new and upcoming, they will be exclusives in my magazine.

I want my solo artist to fit the pop genre with a country genre cross over - just like i spoke about in a previous post. I hope that my artist will fit in the charts alongside Taylor swift and Miley Cyrus who fit into similar genres. She must have a vintage look and feel but must offer the new urban sound of the current pop charts. She will be bright but classy and I want her name to match this.

Current Solo Female Artists : Here is a list of the artists that are the top searched female solo artists I hope to use this list to guide my decision on the name of my artist.

  • Ariana Grande
  • Taylor Swift
  • Jessie J
  • Ellie Goulding
  • Selena Gomez
  • Demi Lovato
  • Sia
  • Adele
  • Katy Perry
  • Pink
  • Jess Glynne
  • Meghan Trainor

I want my artists name to reflect her personality and her music. I don't want it to be too wacky and out of the ordinary but at the same time I don't want it to be too generic. I am going to use a random name generator to come up with a few of the best suggestions, I will make my decision on the best name based on the criteria I have set. In my next post I will show the results of the generator.

Planning and Drafting - Photoshoot Model

I am planning on my photo shoot model being my friend, Chloe.

Chloe will be a good model for my magazine demographic as she is still very young. She would relate to my teen target audience more than an older individual. As she is relate able this would entice readers to read my magazine. She has amazing figure but she is a positive role model for young girls. She is perfect and a inspiration to all young girls. Chloe may also attract audience attention for her appearance and femininity. She is a young female meaning she already fits the appearance of my artist. She will be able to look great in close up images as well as full body images which will mean I will be able to add life to my photography as use the same generic poses and angles. I will use mise-en-scene on the day of shooting. Such as clothing, makeup, and hairstyles etc. I will use this to really bring out the style that I am aiming for her to convey to the audience and transform her into a believable artist. I will also use her natural beauty through out to show warmth and realism. The models I use to portray my models I hope will be able to motivate and inspire my readers.

I also hope to use other models within my magazine but I have not decided on who would be suitable. Using other models would ensure I could included more artists in my magazine, creating a realistic feel for the magazine.

Drafting and Planning - Possible Photography Locations

Possible Photograph Locations.

My first potential shooting location is the Cosy Coffee Co in Northfield < https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cosy-Coffee-Northfield/318292191864252 > It has a lovely vintage look going for it. The decor is quirky and matches the vibe I am aiming for. It would be a great place to take photographs because of it uniqueness and shabby sheik look.  I believe the setting of the location matches my genres very well. Both the Pop and Country would be found in this place as it is very adaptable and offers a lot in terms of different locations to shoot at within. It is a inside location so taking the photos would not be dependent on the weather however it is a public place so it is important that I ask for permission before beginning.

The vintage connotations I want to reach in my magazine fit perfectly with this location. It also matches the genre of music I am going for successfully. The vintage feel and unique furniture and decor suit the direction I want to take my pop magazine in. The location will help me reach the feel i want, my artist/s I am planning would also fit within the location. The colours are not overly bright but offer enough life and portray the idea of delicate but classy and wise. I will also be able to use the artists clothing and makeup to reflect the feel of the location so that the photography offers plenty of texture and excitement on the page.

Self Assessment of Layout Exercise

This is a self assessment on the work I completed in my previous posts.

1. Have you just justified your decisions on your blog? I believe that along with the work I have analysed what I did. After each magazine I justified my decisions in lengthy paragraphs. I spoke about what I had chose to done and why I did it. This ensured that I did things for a reason and didn't just put things together for the point of finishing the magazine cover.

2. How could you enhance these blog entries based on peer-assessment? Based on my peer assessment I am going to make sure that I have included at least 3 cover lines along with the main cover line, a date line and a price. Colour choices are important so the font does not blend in with the main image - this ensures that it can be read. Font choices are also very important. They bring the magazine together and create coherence between the content, the artists and the magazine. Using the wrong font can mean the reader receives the wrong vibe from the magazine causing them to make the wrong judgment.

3. How could you plan to use these in the future? When it comes to the future I hope to use this task to fuel my decisions. I can use the mistakes I made to ensure I don't make them again. By focusing on layout in this task I have learnt the importance of good layout for a successful finish. The organisation of the page is critical to entice the reader and interact with them. With incorrect positioning of cover lines, images and other convention the reader will not be able to understand the cover and therefore relate with the magazines content and ethos. This task has taught me also that organisation of time is also important. As spending the right amount of time on each feature means that they are successful and work with each other. Spending too much time on one section can cause one to be let down and not work. Overall this task has shown me my failures and shown me what needs to be done and how I can do it.
